Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya called the people to turn up for voting despite any mistakes in their official polling cards.
Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday, he said there might be mistakes in name, gender and National Identity Card number yet these are not issues to vote. If there is any issue in the name, or the voter has a new NIC number, the staff at the polling booth would understand and allow to vote, he added.
“If there is a issue in the name of the voter they can sign a statement and vote. However if someone refuses to sign the statement, the Senior Polling officer can refuse to issue the ballot paper," he said
Mr Deshapriya added that If the polling officers suspects that someone is trying to cast another's vote, the voter is allowed to vote after signing a statement and then they will be handed over to the police.
