The Abhayagiri Chaithya which has been restored by the government will be opened for devotees on the Esala Full Moon Poya day, the Government Information Department said. The opening ceremony will be jointly presided by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. According to the secretary to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Mrs. H.D.S. Malkanthi the restortion work began at 1997 and completed at a cost of over Rs. 500 million with the effort and allocations of Central Cultural Fund. In line with this opening, a special three days Pirith Chanting Ceremony will be held from 28th of this month.
