Minister of Roads and Highways Johnston Fernando claimed today (16) that the contract to build a section of the Kurunegala to Mirigama stretch of the Central Expressway was in the hands of a former minister of the UNP Government and that its construction was currently being carried out at a snail's pace.
Speaking to journalists after a visit to observe the progress of the Central Expressway construction, Mr Fernando stated that further development of the expressway had remained suspended due to issues surrounding this stretch of the expressway.
The Minister warned if the former minister failed to complete his section of the expressway by July 31, the Government would initiate legal action against the contractor.
