Both the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) will be opened to the media, it was announced today (6).
There had been speculation earlier that the COPE proceedings will no longer be opened to the media. New COPE Chairman Prof Charitha Herath however, told the Sunday Times last week that the committee would be taking a decision on the matter on October 6. He stated at the time that the committee will most probably allow things to continue as they did during the previous (Eighth) Parliament, when COPE was first opened to the media.
However, further meetings of both COPE and COPA will be postponed for the time being due to concerns following the new COVID-19 cluster from the apparel manufacturing plant belonging to Brandix.
