The Government is to declare Monday, March 16 as a special public holiday as part of efforts to minimise the spread of the Coronavirus, the Ministry of Public Administration announced.
Ministry Secretary S. Hettiarachchi stated that the holiday will also apply to banking and mercantile sectors. The official declaration is expected after 10am tomorrow (15).
"We want people to use the opportunity to stay in their homes as the Government takes preventive measures to minimise the spread of this virus. We are appealing to them not to use the opportunity to go on trips or other excursions. That would defeat the purpose of this entire exercise," Mr Hettiarachchi stressed.
