Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and Venerable Ittapane Dhammalankara Thera held a media briefing today (28) on the coronavirus that has now been confirmed in Sri Lanka.
Cardinal Ranjith told the media briefing that it was important to look into the safety of children especially since schools are a place where the virus can spread rapidly. He urged education authorities to look into this issue.
He further asked the Government to take all necessary steps to control the situation and said they are willing to support these efforts. He noted that there was currently a shortage of surgical masks and asked the Government to ensure that sufficient stocks are brought into the country. The Archbishop further asked people not to panic over the matter.
He also said the Catholic Church was prepared to close down schools that comes under it if there was an epidemic.
