Counting of ballots at the 2020 parliamentary election is continuing at 76 counting centres in the country, Commissioner General of Election Saman Sri Rathnayake stated.
He added that counting officers faced difficulties to reach counting centres in some districts owing to adverse weather experienced early this morning. However, these difficulties have now been sorted out.
The Election Commission has given instructions to the Disaster Management Centre and the army to be on standby in case adverse weather causes any difficulties in counting ballots, Mr Rathnayake added.
He added that the EC is hopeful of issuing the first official results of the election after 1.30pm. Final results of an entire district could be released by about 8.30pm today, he further said.
