The District Secretary of Batticaloa today explained that directive to bury remains of Easter Sunday suicide bomber at Zion Church in a Hindu cemetery of Kalliyankaadu was based on a order issued by the Batticaloa Magistrate courts after many protests staged across the district not to carry out the burial.
Speaking to reporters today following a massive protest last night in Batticaloa town where protesters blocked the main road demanding to remove the body parts of suicide bomber, District Secretary R. Uthayakumar noted that the Courts issued directive to bury the remains at state expenses after judicial examination in a local cemetery. He also noted that local politicians were behind these protests not to be buried in the local cemeteries.
District Secretary Uthayakumar also rejected claims by the Commissioner of Batticaloa Municipal Council that the council was not informed of the decision to bury the remains and it was carried out in secrecy.
