News

The Colombo Chief Magistrates court today (Mar 29) dismissed preliminary objections filed by former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella over a corruption case filed against him.

Charges have been levelled against Mr. Rambukwella for misusing Rs 230,984 belonging to the State Printing Corporation (SPC) by utilising it to pay his private phone bill during his tenure as the Minister of Mass Media.

Former Chairman of the SPC Jayampathy Bandara has also been named as a respondent in the case.

Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne during today's hearing had dismissed the objections filed by the accused and had announced that the case would be taken up for further hearing on June 28.

The former minister has been accused of paying his phone bill using SPC funds during the period from March 15, 2012 until April 14, 2015.
