The Swiss Embassy's Sri Lankan employee, in the centre of a controversy over an alleged abduction, has been barred from leaving the country until December 9, following a court order.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne imposed the travel ban after the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) reported the abduction incident to court today (Dec 3).
The employee, through her embassy, claimed she was abducted last Monday and forced to disclose “embassy-related information”.
Investigators have requested the Chief Magistrate to impose a travel ban as a statement needs to be recorded from the employee.
The Swiss Embassy and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs have said the employee is not in a position to give a statement due to her "deteriorating health condition".
