The Colombo Magistrate's Court has issued an arrest warrant on parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratne in connection with a controversial news briefing held recently.
Additional Magistrate Bandara Nelumdeniya had issued the warrant after considering submissions made by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Attorney General (AG).
The AG had instructed the CID to obtain an arrest warrant from court to apprehend parliamentarian Senaratne.
The media briefing organised by him during the presidential election campaign had been attended by two persons including the purported driver of a "white van" - allegedly used in abductions before 2015.
An anticipatory bail application filed by the parliamentarian seeking the prevention of his arrest is set to be heard further on December 30 at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
