The Puttalam Magistrate’s Court has ordered the submission of two reports into last night’s explosion at the Aruwakkalu Sanitary landfill.
Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said these orders had been issued when Police had made submissions to Court regarding the incident, today (Oct 8).
“The Wanathavilluwa Police had previously received several complaints (against the landfill),” the Spokesman said in a statement.
Accordingly, the court had instructed the Puttalam Public Health Inspector and the North-Western Environmental Authority to submit reports on the incident in due course.
Further hearing of the case will take place on October 18.
Meanwhile, the Megapolis Ministry also said that a special investigation is underway into the explosion which is believed to have occurred inside a Regulation Tank where the leachate from garbage was being collected.
