The Colombo High Court granted permission to Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa to travel abroad until February 20 next year.
The permission was granted after Judge Pradeep Hettiarachchi considered a motion filed by lawyers representing Mr. Rajapaksa, a defendent in a money laundering case before the court..
MP Rajapaksa's lawyer said his client had sought permission to travel overseas to keep the court informed, although no travel ban had been imposed on him.
Accordingly, the court fixed the case for further hearing on February 10.
Rajapaksa and five others face 11 charges under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act for allegedly misappropriating Rs 30 million through Gowers Corporate Services owned by the parliamentarian, in 2013 and 2014.
The other accused in the case are Indika Karunajeewa, Sujani Bogollagama, Iresha Silva, Nithya Senani Samaranayake and Gowers Corporate Services (Pvt) Limited.
