The Court of Appeal today ruled that Galle District Parliamentarian Geetha Kumarasinghe was disqualified from being an MP as she holds duel citizenship.
The ruling was given in response to a petition filed by several individuals stating that Ms. Kumarasinghe could not be an MP as she held duel citizenship.
The Attorney General's Department too had informed court earlier that Geetha Kumarasinghe still holds citizenship in Switzerland and under the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, a person holding duel citizenship cannot be an MP.
