The number of confirmed COVID-19 patients crossed the 1000 mark this evening with a further 28 patients being confirmed, raising the overall total to 1020.
Director General of Health Services Dr Anil Jasinghe stated that all 28 patients are navy personnel at the Oluvil Quarantine Centre.
Meanwhile, the number of patients who have recovered from the disease and been discharged from hospital also rose to 569 today.
A further 442 COVID-19 patients are still undergoing hospital treatment.
Health authorities conducted 960 PCR tests yesterday where 11 patients infected with the disease were found.
