A crackdown on foreign nationals using forged documents in order to remain in the country has been launched.
A special joint operation to this effect is being carried out by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Terrorist Investigations Department (TID), and the State Intelligency Service (SIS).
The Defence Ministry has also discussed plans to seek public assistance in order to provide information on such individuals who are living in the country.
Following the launch of the special operation, one Maldivian national who had used forged documents to illegally remain in the country for over five years was arrested by the CID in Chilaw.
