The Customs Officers Union has said that it would continue with its strike action to protest against the removal of its Director General.
Customs officials claim that they had decided to continue the strike since discussions which held along with the Finance Minister today (Feb 01) ended in a deadlock.
The strike operation had commenced to protest against the appointment of retired Navy officer Rear Admiral Shamil Fernando to the post of Customs Director General while removing P.S.M. Charles who was serving in the said position till recently.
Activities such as the clearance of goods have been affected due to the strike which is being carried out for the third consecutive day today.
