The Customs Department has vowed to continue its checking process despite protests by container drivers that it was taking long hours to clear goods.
A senior customs official Sunil Jayaratna said that the checking process was intensified in view of a couple of incidents of illegal smuggling.
"We have started a process of checking more items instead of random checks", he said.
The container drivers claim that they have to wait for long hours inorder to get goods cleared and thereby were suffering losses.
