SriLankan Airlines suspends its country manager in Thailand over airport clash

The SriLankan Airlines Country Manager in Thailand has been suspended and recalled with immediate effect after an altercation with airline staff at the airport, the national airline said on Thursday in a statement, responding to social media reports on this incident.

It said that on April 2 (last Thursday), while SriLankan Airlines crew prepared to check in at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, the SriLankan Country Manager entered the passenger check-in area and engaged in physical altercations with the operating Flight Crew and the Station Manager. This matter was immediately reported to Airport Police at Suvarnabhumi International Airport by company officials, and investigations are underway.

 

SriLankan Airlines said the actions of the Country Manager were unlawful, unwarranted and in breach of company rules and regulations. It said it took immediate steps to suspend him from service and directed him to return to Sri Lanka immediately..
