The death toll of yesterday's (Dec 6) bus accident in Badulla has arisen to 12, police said noting that 30 individuals had been injured in the incident.
The bus, belonging to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), had toppled down a slope for about 200 metres after tumbling off a precipice along the Passara - Madulsima road.
It is believed that the bus had veered off the road while attempting to allow another vehicle to over take it.
A post-mortem examination is to be carried out on the deceased victims which includes two school children, at the Badulla General Hospital. Four police officers are among the injured victims.
The Police and the SLTB have launched an investigation into the incident.
