The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) has reported 70 deaths due to dengue this year.
Issuing a statement, the NDCU’s Consultant Physician Dr. Prashila Samaraweera noted that 45,000 people had contracted the fever so far this year.
Dr. Samaraweera observed that there were 44 deaths recorded last year while 39,000 individuals were affected during the first nine months of last year.
Accordingly, the NDCU has instructed all Public Health Inspector (PHI)’s and the Presidential Task Force on Dengue Prevention to conduct clean-up campaigns this week.
