A National Dengue Prevention week has been initiated from today island-wide to eradicate dengue with the assistance of many stakeholders including Tri forces and school students. The new initiative which will be effective till April 4, comes after a rapid increase of no patients reported with epidemic dengue disease around the country.
During the last 03 month of the year 2017,at least 40 person died and 26115 suspected dengue cases have been reported to the Epidemiology Unit from all over the island.
Approximately 40.42% of dengue cases were reported from the Western province. The highest numbers of dengue cases were reported during the 03 week of 2017.
"This situation warrants regular removal of possible mosquito breeding sites from the environment. It is also important to seek medical attention in the event of fever by day three of the illness," the unit said.
