The Department of Motor Traffic and the National Transport Medical Institute will remain open on Saturdays from March 23 onwards.
In a bid to provide a more efficient service to the public, the Department of Motor Traffic and the National Transport Medical Institute will be kept open on Saturdays, under a new programme initiated by Transport Minister, Arjuna Ranatunga.
"Those who are busy during the week can now take advantage of this service on Saturdays to obtain driving licenses as well as medical certificates required to obtain the driving license," Minister Ranatunga said speaking at a meeting in Colombo today (March 13).
The first phase of the project is to be implemented at the Department of Motor Traffic headquarters at the Werahera office. Accordingly the public will have the opportunity to obtain driving licenses from the office on Saturdays as they would during the week.
Services such as the renewing of driving licences to issuing of new ones, issuing of driving licence application forms etc will be made available to the public on Saturdays.
At the same time, the head office of the National Transport Medical Institute in Nugegoda and the Werahera office will also remain open on Saturdays in order to obtain the necessary medical certificates for the issuing of drivers licences.
