Despite the ongoing train strike, 10 trains will operate from Colombo to Rambukkana, Mahawa, Kandy, Galle, Matara, Anuradhapura, Avissawella and Chilaw from 4.00 pm today for the convenience of office workers, General Manager of Railways, Dilantha Fernando said.
This morning eight trains were in operation to cater to the working community coming into Colombo from the out stations.
In addition, Mr Dissanayake said that trains were operational from Colombo to Kankesanthurai, Panadura, and from Panadura to Veyangoda this morning.
Several Trade Unions of the Railway Department decided to initiate a 48-hour strike from midnight yesterday (June 20).
