Deputy Inspector General (DIG) G.K.J. Aponso has been appointed as the DIG in charge of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) while the incumbent DIG Sajeewa Medawatte has been transferred to the Police Welfare Division.
The National Police Commission (NPC) has given approval for the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) to transfer DIG Medawatte and for the appointment of DIG Aponso.
The transfer comes after the arrest of four PNB officers; a Sub Inspector, two Sergeants and a Constable, for allegedly having links with drug traffickers and for engaging in drug dealings.
