The Ministry of Digital Infrastructure and the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology have been brought under non-cabinet ministers Sujeewa Senasinghe and Ajith Perera respectively.
The ministries were transferred after Ministers Harin Fernando and Malik Samarawickrama opted out of the portfolios of Digital Infrastructure and Science, Research and Technology Ministries from their purview.
According to extra-ordinary gazette no. 2103/12 - 2018, Ministers Fernando and Samarawickrama were re-sworn before President Maithripala Sirisena with the exclusion of these ministries.
Following this move, Ministers Senasinghe and Perera took oaths before President Maithripala Sirisena with the divested ministries brought under their purview.
Therefore, Mr. Fernando now serves as the Minister of Telecommunication, Foreign Employment and Sports while Mr. Samarawickrama serves as the Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade.
