A senior police commission official has been appointed today (Jun 24) to conduct a disciplinary inquiry against nine senior police officials, a Commission spokesman said.
Last week, the Attorney General had instructed the Acting Police Chief and the Police Commission to conduct an inquiry in order to level criminal charges and take legal action against these officials over the Easter Sunday attacks.
The instructions had been issued upon a recommendation made by the Special Investigation Committee which was appointed to probe into the Easter Sunday attacks.
However, an official at the Police Commission said criminal-related investigations would be carried out by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) while disciplinary inquiries would be conducted by the Police Commission.
The disciplinary report is due to be submitted within one month, a Police Commission official told Times Online.
Among these senior officials who would be investigated are the DIG's of the Colombo, North Western and the Special Protection Range, Meegamuwa Senior Superintendent, Colombo North Superintendent, the third and fourth Assistant Superintendent's in Meegamuwa, and the Katana and Jampettah Street Officers-in-Charge (OIC).
