Doctors' strike continues for second day

News

The strike launched by the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) entered its second day today. The union insists that the strike will continue indefinitely until the Government resolves issues surrounding the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) in Malabe.

The strike was launched yesterday to protest against the actions of the police and Special Task Force (STF) personnel in dispersing university students who stormed the Health Ministry premises during a protest on Thursday (22). Almost 90 students, as well as police and STF personnel were injured in the incident, when clashes erupted as police moved into disperse students who were occupying a building inside the Health Ministry. The students were part of a protest organized by the Inter University Student Federation (IUSF) and the Medical Faculty Students' Action Committee against SAITM.
