Drones will be banned from the airspace in the Rajagiriya and Welikada areas from today (Oct 5) until Monday, a senior official at the Elections Secretariat said.
The official said that the Air Force has been entrusted with the responsibility of taking action against such drones.
Meanwhile, the polls body has also introduced a regulation stating that only two individuals will be allowed to accompany a candidate handing over nominations for the Presidential elections, on October 7.
Nominations would be accepted between 9 am and 11 am on October 7 while objections to these nominations could be made between 9 am and 11:30 am, the Election Commission said.
The presidential election is to be held on November 16.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
