Three individuals have died following two accidents which took place in close proximity to the Mount Lavinia and the Ratmalana filling station earlier today (Dec 09).
Eight people have been admitted to the Kalubowila hospital following the accidents, police said.
According to the police, a cab which was heading towards Galle had collided with two pedestrians in Mt. Lavinia leaving one dead.
The driver of the cab had fled the scene in the same vehicle and rammed onto three other vehicles in Ratmalana thereby resulting in the death of two individuals including a motorcylist.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the driver of the cab was drunk at the time of both accidents.
The driver is now receiving treatment at the Kalubowila hospital under police supervision.
