The Eastern Provincial Council (EPC) yesterday (Nov 6) launched its ‘Citizens Budget’, supported by UNICEF, outlining the expenditure and management of its funds, in a “simpler format’.
The document, which has been designed to be visually appealing, is expected to allow the public to gain a better understanding of how public finances are managed and used.
Sarath Abegunawardana, the EPC’s Chief Secretary, released the document at an event in Trincomalee, attended by Sri Lanka’s Finance Commission Chairman Uditha Palihakkara and UNICEF representatives.
The EPC has been allocated a budget of Rs 29.1 billion for 2019, out of which around 80 percent has been provided by the Government. The rest of the funds have been accumulated through foreign donations, and income earned in the Eastern Province.
