The Election Commission has sent a list of names to the Constitutional Council seeking to appoint an Elections Commissioner General in line with the upcoming presidential election.
Sources at the Elections Secretariat said that interviews for the post had been conducted this week.
Elections Secretariat Director General Saman Sri Rathnayake had been serving as an Acting Elections Commissioner General to fill the void of a designated individual.
However, the polls body has informed the CC that the presidential election cannot be conducted without a permanent individual appointed to the post.
