The Election Commission (EC) has complained to social media companies, against users who spread "false information" in the run-up to the presidential election.
EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya, in a statement, observed that certain Presidential candidates and political parties have begun claiming victory in the postal voting for the election.
Accordingly, Deshapriya stressed that making such statements and giving publicity to them, to create an impact on other voters, is "inappropriate".
He stated that no person, organisation, or party, can make such statements until the results of postal votes are released after 5 pm on November 16.
Postal voting, during which public servants cast their votes, took place on four days, will also take place tomorrow (Nov 7) and on Saturday (Nov 9).
