The Election Commission (EC) has instructed state media outlets to provide balanced coverage of 45 minutes for each of the 35 presidential candidates during the run-up to the poll.
These instructions had been issued during a meeting with officials of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, an official at the polls body said.
The EC had previously urged private media institutions to refrain from biased reporting and to provide equal coverage for all presidential candidates.
A gazette notification too had been issued to this effect recently
