Following the new party registration process commenced early this year, the Election Commission has decided to recognise only six fresh political parties in addition to 70 parties which have already been registered.
During the registration process, totally 154 applications were received in which 121 were called for interviews. The rest of the applications were rejected on many grounds including submitting fake annual reports of the party.
The details of fresh parties that have been registered as follows:
Arunalu Janatha Peramuna (Secretary K.R.Krishan), Janatha Sevaka Party (Secretary Jayantha Wijesinghe), Nawa Prajathanthravadi Marks-Leninvadi Pakshaya) (Secretary Kasipillai Senthilvedan), Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (Secretary Upul Wijesekara) , Samattuwa Kachchi (Secretary Chandrakumar Murugesu) and Sinhala Ravaya (named to be later changed Ape Janatha Ravaya – Secretary Shalitha Lakpriya Perera)

The deadline for online applications to the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination has been extended until July 12, the Department of Examinations said.
