The Election Commission has asked the government to alloacte Rs 5 Billion as the total expenditure for upcoming local elections in April next year, a senior official of the Commission said.
Addressing at a press briefing today, Chairman of the Commission Mahinda Deshapriya said that he is expecting that the due local polls would be held before April 30 since government has to finalize the gazetation process of Delimitation of wards island wide by December 31.
"The Commission has no power to declare the date of the local polls. It is up to the relavant minister announce it after completing delimitation process," Commissioner Deshapriya said.
