The Elections Commission expects to gather details of deceased and overseas voters to prevent the abuse of votes and to be able to conduct a fair Presidential election set to get underway on November 16.
The Chairman of the Election Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya, issued a statement to this effect requesting voters to inform the elections office regarding names of those in the 2018 voters register of those who are deceased or overseas.
The statement further said the district elections office in the area of residence or the Grama Niladhari of the area should be informed by October 5, 2019.
In addition, the details should be regarding names of any persons in the 2018 voter list of those who are deceased or who are still overseas as at October 1, 2019.
