The Railway Department put into operation eight trains to eight destinations, today, despite the ongoing train strike.
The destinations are Galle, Matara, Puttalam, Kandy, Mahawa, Puttalam, Chilaw and Rambukkana.
Technical officers, some of whom were previously engine drivers, prior to promotion, were assigned to operate these trains.
Currently engine drivers and guards are on strike following a series of demands, including a long-standing salary issue.
