Election Cannot be held on April 25th, Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya announced today.
Mr Deshapriya told a news conference today that a decision regarding the date of the elections will be taken by the Commission soon after the notice of the election is issued.
The gazette notification is due to be made public on March 26, he said.
"The Commisison will be empowered to postpone elections for a minimum of 14 days. But we cannot say if the elections can be held in May or June. It will all depend on the CORVID-19 sitution", he said.
He said even the situation improves now it was impossible to hold elections on April 25 as the election preparations have been disrupted now.
