Essential services continue without interruptions - Govt. Information Department

The Government Information Department assured the public that despite the prevailing situation in the country,  essential services were continuing.

Train services will continue to be in operation as usual except for night mail trains, Railway Superintendent (Additional) L. M. Wickremaratne was quoted as saying in a release issued by the department.

Special security checks will also be carried out in trains prior to the commencement of a journey, he noted adding that passengers with suspicious parcels will be searched by railway officers.

Meanwhile, directives have been issued to bus depots to deploy buses based on the requirement, Sri lanka Transport Board Superintendent (Operations) P.R.T Chandrasiri said. He observed that trade unions, passengers and bus depots have been made aware of the security arranegements in buses by means of posters, circulars, and advisories as well.

Private buses too would be functioning on a normal basis, Mr. Chandrasiri was quoted saying in the press release.

The supply of fuel too is being carried out on an uninterrupted basis, Sri Lanka Petroleum Corporation Manager (Supply) W.M.T.W.A Bandara said adding that fuel is being supplied to the furthest parts of the country well in advance. Orders have also been placed to import fuel in order to meet the demand during the coming months, Mr. Bandara assured.

In addition, activities of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority are also been functioning on a normal basis, Authority Direcotor (Operations) Captain Athula Hewavithana said. 

Meanwhile, the government also observed that the general public have been cooperating with the ongoing investigations by taking precaution and also providing the relevant information to the security forces.
