Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SriLankan Airlines Kapila Chandrasena and his wife, who had warrants out for their arrest, surrendered to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) through their lawyers this morning. The two were arrested after surrendering to police.
Police Media Unit said the two suspects are due to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court later today.
On the instructions of the Attorney General, the CID obtained warrants to arrest Mr Chandrasena and his wife after allegations surfaced regarding their part in the Airbus bribery scandal. The duo are accused of accepting USD 2 million in bribes for purchasing 10 aircraft from Airbus.
