Health authorities have taken over the building complex in Iranavila, Puttalam used previously by the "Voice of America" (VoA) radio as a relay station to conduct transmission activities.
Puttalam District Health Services Director Dr Dinusha Fernando stated that the complex will be converted to a quarantine and treatment centre for COVID-19 patients.
Authorities conducted an inspection tour of the complex today (23). Puttalam District Secretary Chandrasiri Bandara and former Tourism Minister Arundika Fernando were among those who toured the complex.
The Director of Health Services further stated the complex could be used as a centre to house 200 COVID-19 cases.
Noting that six COVID-19 cases have already been confirmed in the district, Dr Fernando stated that the complex will be prepared to house cases in an emergency situation.
