Excise Department seize more than 100 foreign liquor bottles smuggled into Sri Lanka
More than a 100 bottles of foreign liquor which were smuggled into the country were seized by Excise Department officials in Marawila today (Feb 14).
The liquor bottles were carefully concealed inside mattresses, the Excise Department said.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect who had smuggled the bottles was a 45-year old Sri Lankan who has been permanently residing in Italy for 16 years .
It is reported that the suspect had smuggled the bottles of liquor during previous occasions as well.
The Excise Department noted that the suspect had distributed the bottles of liquor at his residence.
