The Excise Department has been instructed by the Finance Ministry to deploy its teams on round the clock duties to nab those committing offenses in violation of Excise Ordinance, a senior official said.
Accordingly around 1,000 Excise officials will be deployed throughout the country, Deputy Excise Commissioner Kapila Kumarasinghe said.
He said that the main target would be to detect illicit liquor manufactuers and large scale traffickers.
