The Expenditure Head of the Ministry of Highways and Road Development & Petroleum Resources Development was passed in Parliament by a majority of 83 votes.

The vote was taken after United National Party (UNP) MP Prof. Ashu Marasinghe requested for a division from the Speaker on the Expenditure Head of the Ministry.
The move to ask for a vote appeared to be an attempt to display the Government’s strength in numbers after yesterday’s unexpected defeat of two Ministry Expenditure Heads.
A total of 84 MPs voted for the Expenditure Head. Only United National Party (UNP) MP Ananda Aluthgamage, who now sits with the Opposition, voted against.
Meanwhile, the Expenditure Head of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Business Development was passed unanimously without amendments.
