Explosion at fireworks factory injures owner

An explosion and resultant fire at a fireworks factory in Katugastota, Kandy left its owner injured and in hospital last evening. Police said it was reported that the owner was admitted to the Kandy hospital following the explosion.

Upon being informed of the incident, Katugastota Police had rushed to the location and assisted the Kandy Fire Brigade and area residents to douse the fire.

The factory building has sustained damage due to the explosion and fire. However, the damage is yet to be estimated and no cause for the fire has been identified as yet. Katugastota Police are investigating.
