A family member of an employee attached to the Parliamentary Affairs Services Unit in Pelawatta, Battaramulla, has tested positive for COVID1-9, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena told Parliament today (8).
The Speaker made the revelation after Galle District Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Shan Wijeyalal De Silva told the Speaker that he had been denied entry to the premises of the unit this morning by security there.
"A family member of an employee at the unit has tested positive for COVID-19. As such, there are strict security measures in place there and no outsiders will be permitted entry to the premises. Hopefully, the situation will be brought under control soon but these measures are being taken to ensure everyone's safety," the Speaker added.
The Parliamentary Affairs Services Unit functions under the Ministry of Local Government & Provincial Councils and is located in Pelawatta, Battaramulla. It is not located inside the Parliament complex.
