Female police officers are undergoing training under the Police Anti-Riot squad to control protests in future, the Police Department said.
This was following a decision taken by the said Department concerning the deployment of female police officers to control protests within the Colombo District.
Individuals who engage in acts of abuse or harassment of these police officers would be charged for the harassment of females., police said.
A test-run in this regard was carried out on February 26 when 40 female police officers were deployed to control a students' protest.
The protestors had conducted themselves in a proper manner instead of clashing with the police, due to this move, a senior police officer said.
