A female lawyer who had scraped a female constable while being searched at the Colombo High Court was released on bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today (May 29).
Attorney Premani Pothupitiya, was ordered to be released on a surety bail of Rs 100,000 after court had considered a request put forward by Attorney Sanjaya Gamage who represented the accused.
Keselwatte Police who had apprehended the suspect, had submitted a report regarding the incident before court during today's hearing.
According to the Police, the lawyer had made degrading remarks against a security officer who had searched her prior to entering the court complex.
The lawyer had scraped the security officer when she had responded that she was carrying out orders of her superiors, police told court. The incident had taken place at around 3:45 pm on May 28.
Countering the arguments made by the Police, Attorney Sanjaya Gamage refuted such claims and told court that his client had not made any remarks to such effect.
However, he had requested court to release his client on bail.
