While there were enough buses for people in Dambulla town this morning, there was markedly few passengers to make use of them.
By contrast, long lines of farmers were seen queing up outside fertilizer shops to purchase fertilizer. There is a visible fertilizer shortage in the area and there was a rush to get at the lone lorry which pulled up outside one shop with a stock of fertilizer.
The shortage meant that only one fertilizer bag could be distributed to each farmer, and social distancing guidelines recommended by health authorities were completely ignored in the rush to obtain fertilizer.
